Miami-Dade Transit The Challenge
Miami-Dade Transit, the public transit agency serving the 2.4 million residents of Miami-Dade County, was an early adopter of mobile video surveillance systems. Although state-of-the-art at the time they were acquired, the agency’s legacy systems provided a maximum of four or five days of onboard storage and recorded video with less than ideal quality due to frame rate limitations.
The Solution
Finding a Mobile DVR system to satisfy management’s requirement for 30 days of onboard storage was a tall challenge, so when Miami-Dade Transit staff learned about the imminent release of March Networks’ 5412 MDVR with 1.5 TB of storage and recording rates of up to 30 fps per camera, they immediately volunteered to serve as a beta site. Nothing else “offered anything remotely close to what we were looking for,” commented Colin Armorer, who led Miami-Dade Transit’s search for a new video surveillance system.
