Port Authority of Allegheny County The Challenge
The Port Authority of Allegheny County operates a fleet of 879 buses, a 25-mile light rail system and assorted public transportation services serving Pittsburgh and surrounding communities. Authority management relied on Mobile DVRs on buses to capture evidence of liability claims, accidents and other incidents, but 30 to 50 per cent of the time, there was no video or the quality was so poor that it could not be used.
The Solution
Authority executives canvassed several other transit authorities to identify preferred vendors and evaluated seven or eight Mobile DVR systems before settling on a solution from March Networks. Swaying the decision was March Networks’ compliance with SAE standards and the company’s reputation for reliability. Equally attractive was the 5308 MDVR’s built-in wireless capability that alerts security staff to performance issues and allows them to download video and upload software updates without having to board each bus.
