The Challenge
The development of a modern transportation system has been a key priority for the Government of South Africa, especially as it prepares to welcome an expected 400,000 visitors as host country for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Efficient highway, bus and rail systems are prerequisites for economic growth and prosperity, but modern transportation infrastructure also require effective security systems to keep traffic flowing and ensure the safety of passengers, transit employees and physical assets.

The Solution
Basix Technologies selected March Networks video surveillance technology for South Africa’s Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit, the Gautrain rapid rail system and the South African National Roads Agency. “We selected March Networks systems because they offered our customers an open migration path to evolving technologies like video analytics that can be used to trigger alarms and quickly respond to potential threats,” said Jeff Groenewald, Managing Director, Basix Technologies.
