How do I add an Edge 4e, Edge 8e HD or Edge 16e encoder to an 8000 or 9000 Series recorder?

Purpose & Scope
Follow these steps to add an Edge e encoder to your 8000 Series or 9000 Series recorder.

NOTE: DO NOT use the Admin Console’s Encoders tab to add an Edge e encoder.

Procedure

There are two methods to add an IP Device to a recorder. The first, is adding it manually.

1-Launch Admin Console.

2-Ensure the Device Installation task type is selected.

3-Click a recorder in the Device Selector panel.

4-Click Cameras tab. The Cameras page appears.

Depending on which encoder you are adding, you will need an amount of unused IP inputs in order to add the “encoder’s inputs or channels” to the recorder. If you do not see any free IP inputs, you may need to convert some analog inputs into IP inputs by “fully disabling” the analog inputs using the Input Enabled column of the cameras tab found under the Device Configuration task type.

Once you have some free IP inputs to work with, to the right of the Camera List, you can manually add the details of the new Edge Encoder. (Channel by channel)

5-Select an unassigned IP input within the Camera List.

6-From the Camera Brand list, select March Networks.

7-From the Camera Model list, select Edge 4e, Edge 8e HD or Edge 16e. (your NVR must be at version 5.14 to add the Edge 8e HD)

8-Enter the IP address and authentication information for the recorder.

9-Select an encoder channel where an analog camera was connected.

10-Click Apply. The recorder connects to the IP camera or encoder and a live video stream appears.

Repeat the above steps for every encoder channel where an analog camera was physically connected.

The second method of adding an IP Device is using the integrated Discovery Browser tool.

Starting with Admin Console version 5.8.1, the Discovery Browser was integrated with the Admin Console software.

1-Launch Admin Console.

2-Ensure the Device Installation task type is selected.

3-Click a recorder in the Device Selector panel.

4-Click Cameras tab. The Cameras page appears.

5-Click Discover Devices. Once the software launches, it will detect devices on the network interfaces of the recorder.

6-Select the interface where the encoder is connected. If the encoder is found within that interface's subnet, it will appear. If it does not appear on either network interfaces, add it manually using the procedure above. (your NVR must be at version 5.14 or later to be discovered by the feature)

7-Select the encoder and ensure its IP address is appropriate for the subnet where it is connected. (such as the NVR’s Main network interface or Camera network interface. If it isn’t, you may be able to change the encoder’s IP address using the Discovery Browser tool or, using a browser, login to the encoder's setup page (http://<ip of encoder>/setup) to assign it a proper IP address.

Select the encoder and add all encoder channels where an analog camera was connected.

 Select Save all

Back on the Admin Console, each encoder channel will be automatically added to the Camera List. Ensure each camera Status shows OK.

Note: It is normal for cameras to be added as PTZ cameras as the Encoder is not aware if the analog cameras are of the "fixed or PTZ type" therefore they are added as PTZ to provide that functionality if required.
